Parent Involvement Policy
Brown's Ferry Elementary School

As a Title I school, Brown's Ferry Elementary has developed this policy to insure involvement of participating children. This policy was developed jointly with, and distributed to, parents of participating children and describes the implementation of the requirements. This policy will be distributed to all Title I parents. The policy includes the following requirements:

I. An annual meeting will be held before October 1, to which all parents shall be invited and encouraged to attend to inform parents of their school's participation under Title I and to explain Title I, its requirements, and their right to be involved.

II. The school will offer a flexible number of meetings and possibly provide through Title I funds for transportation, child care, or home visits as they relate the involvement. Meeting times will vary based on the nature of the meeting and the needs of those involved. Specific meetings will include:

A. Child Development visitation days at the beginning of the school year.
B. Specific Parent Conference sessions (as needed)
C. PTO meetings four times each year.
D. Open House
E. Parenting Workshops to be held on a regular basis

III. The school will involve parents, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of programs under Title I, including the school parent involvement policy, and the joint development of the schoolwide program plan.

IV. The school will provide parents of participating children with:

A. Timely information about Title I programs through

1. bimonthly school newsletter
2. monthly Parent Involvement Letters
3. school marquee
4. PTO meetings
5. School Improvement Council meetings

V. School performance profiles that show school progress toward meeting the state's challenging performance standards and provide individual student results and interpretation of results to parents. Standardized test results will be provided annually during Parent-Teacher Organization meetings. Parents may obtain individual student assessments from the classroom teacher or guidance counselor.

VI. A description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet. Curriculum night will be held at the beginning of each school year. The annual Title I Report Card will also be used to assess the curriculum or provide direction for the upcoming year.

VII. Opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions, share experiences with other parents, and participate as appropriate in decisions relating to the education of their children if such parents so desire. These meetings will include:

A. Parenting Workshops
B. Title I Advisory Committee
C. Parent Conference Days
D. Interim Reports/Procedures
E. Report Cards
F. Home Visits

VIII. Timely responses to parents' suggestions. Responses will include:

A. telephone calls from principal or teacher
B. written response from principal or teacher

IX. If the schoolwide program is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, the school will provide parents with the opportunity to provide and then submit any parent comments on the plan when the school makes the plan available to the Georgetown County School District.

X. The school will update the policy at least every 3 years to meet the changing needs of parents and the school.
